Synopsis

The global market for Dissolving Wood Pulp (DWP) was estimated to be worth US$ 7180 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 10001 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 4.7% during the forecast period 2025-2031.

This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Dissolving Wood Pulp (DWP) cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.

Dissolving wood pulp (DWP) is bleached wood pulp containing higher cellulose content compared to other wood pulps such as fluff pulp and northern bleached softwood kraft pulp.

The DWP market has changed significantly. In recent years, companies have continued to withdraw from the market. For example: several companies in China, such as Yueyang Paper (Hunan Juntai), converted their dissolving pulp production lines into ordinary wood pulp production lines in 2019; Finland's Stora Enso announced its withdrawal in 2021 DWP market; Nippon Paper Kushiro factory will also close in 2021. At the same time, the South American market Bracell and Arauco will each open a large-scale DWP production factory in 2020 and 2021.

From the perspective of product types, the DWP on the market can be simply divided into two categories: rayon grade and special grade. Rayon grade products are mostly used in the production of rayon and lyocell. Developing countries such as China and India have not yet fully mastered the commercial production technology of lyocell-grade DWP. Therefore, the production of special grade DWP depends on the top four global countries and developed countries such as Europe and Japan.

The main consumption markets for Dissolving Wood Pulp (DWP) are located in APAC. China only took a 63.3% of global sales volume market share, this is mainly due to the large number of viscose staple fiber manufacturers in China. Sateri alone has a production capacity of 1.8 million tons of viscose staple fibers and 220,000 tons of lyocell in China.
