Gas Separation Membranes is an interphase between two adjacent phases acting as a selective barrier, regulating the transport of gases among gas mixtures. Gas separation across a membrane is a pressure-driven process, where the driving force is the difference in pressure between inlet of raw material and outlet of product. The membrane used in the process is a generally non-porous layer, so there will not be a severe leakage of gas through the membrane. Gas separation membranes work according to the principle of selective permeation through the membrane surface. The permeation rate of each gas depends on its solubility in the membrane material and on the diffusion rate of the gas. Gases with high solubility and small molecules pass through the membrane very quickly.
Global key players of gas separation membranes include Air Products, Air Liquide and UBE. The top three manufacturers account for about 64% of the global share, with the largest producer being Air Products, with a market share of about 30%. Global origins are mainly located in North America, Europe, China and Japan, with North America being the largest production region, holding more than 50% of the market share.
