2-Propenoic acid,2-methyl-, 2-[3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]ethyl ester. Is a reactive ultraviolet stabilizer. It is reactive ultraviolet absorber which is able to copolymerize efficiently with variety of vinyl monomers such as methacrylic, styrenic, and acrylonitrile monomers, thus providing permanent placement of the benzotrizole in the polymer. It imparts high weatherability to thin films and fibers. It provides permanence of the stabilizer in the resin, improved compatibility even in the very high loadings, excellent environmental acceptability, expanded technology options and ability to design new UV polymer screens with unique properties. Used in plastic lens, film, sheet, packaging material, container, fiber and as alternative plastic to the glass.
Ultraviolet absorber is currently the most widely used class of light stabilizers, according to its structure can be divided into salicylate, benzophenone, benzotriazole, substitution of acrylonitrile, triazine, etc., and the most widely used in the industry for benzophenone and benzotriazole. The bursting agent is mainly metal complexes, such as bivalent nickel complexes, often and ultraviolet absorbers and synergistic effect.
