Voiding Cystourethrogram, also known as VCUG or cystography, it can reveal the size of the bladder and the extent of drainage.The test is also used to identify any abnormalities in the urethra and bladder.Thin, flexible tubes called catheters are inserted into the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) and into the bladder.Contrast dye flows into the bladder through a catheter.The dye helps the bladder display better on X-ray images.When the bladder is filled with contrast dye, x-rays are taken from various angles.Remove the catheter to facilitate urination.An image is taken when the bladder is emptied.In urology, urination cystourethrography (VCUG) is a technique for visualizing a person's urethra and bladder during urination (voids).The technique involves inserting a catheter into the body so that the bladder can be filled with a radioactive contrast agent, usually ubiquitic acid.Under fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray), the radiologist looks at the contrast agent entering the bladder and the patient's anatomy.If the contrast agent enters the ureter and returns to the kidney, the radiologist diagnoses vesicoureteral reflux and scores the severity.
