Synopsis
WS2 is used as friction reducing agents for aerospace and aircraft components. In the injection molding industry, it helps to reduce friction during the molding process. The parts do not stick to the mold and release more quickly. It is also used for chains, end mills, bearings, and gear boxes, among many others.

Tungsten disulfide (WS2) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula WS2. tungsten disulfide is a gray, metallic, fine hexagonal crystalline or powder. It is stable in air. Insoluble in water, soluble in nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid mixed acid. Soluble in molten alkali, insoluble in alcohol. Ammonium tungstate reacts with hydrogen sulfide gas and precipitates ammonium tetrathionate. The latter is then roasted at high temperature and decomposed into tungsten disulfide.
Tungsten disulfide is a new type of solid lubricant, suitable for lubrication under high temperature, high pressure, high load and high vacuum conditions. It can be added to engineering plastics to make self-lubricating components, or mixed with volatile solvents and sprayed on metal surfaces to improve die life and workpiece finish in stamping and forging.
The global production of tungsten disulfide is mainly distributed in North America, China and Europe, with China holding more than 60% of the market share. In the consumption perspective, Asia Pacific is the largest market with nearly 40% share, followed by North America and Europe with 30% and 24% market share respectively.
