Synopsis
The global market for PA11 and PA12 was estimated to be worth US$ 1835 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 2230 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 2.9% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on PA11 and PA12 cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Polyamide 12 (PA12, Nylon 12) is a polymer with the molecular formula -[(CH₂)₁₁C(O)NH]n-. It is synthesized from ω-aminododecanoic acid or laurolactam monomers, each containing 12 carbon atoms. As a semi-crystalline to crystalline thermoplastic material, it exhibits low density and minimal water absorption. PA12 is widely utilized as a polyamide additive in industrial applications.
Nylon 1 (Polyamide 11/PA11), another member of the polyamide family, is a bioplastic produced by polymerizing 11-aminoundecanoic acid4. Known for its chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability, PA11 is particularly suited for high-performance technical applications due to its durability.
Foreign enterprises monopolize the supply of nylon 12, and domestic products are expected to break through
The mainstream production process of nylon 12 is the oxidative oxime method, which has a relatively high technical barrier. Currently, the market is monopolized by four companies: Evonik, EMS, Arkema and Ube Industries, and the competitive landscape is highly concentrated. In the 1950s, China began to make attempts at domestic production of special nylons represented by long-chain nylon. Currently, domestic enterprises have made breakthroughs in varieties such as PA610, PA612, PA1012, and PA1212, but PA12 is still almost entirely dependent on imports. In recent years, policies have increased support for the special nylon industry. Domestic enterprises will continue to rise to the challenge and are expected to break the monopoly of PA12.
The lightweighting of automobiles has driven up demand
Nylon 12 is mainly used in the field of automotive pipe materials. In recent years, with the rapid development of new energy vehicles, nylon 12 has played an increasingly prominent role in the lightweighting of new energy vehicles due to its extremely low product density.
At present, the domestic automotive, electronics and other industries are developing rapidly. In the automotive field, the development of new energy vehicles and automotive lightweighting is booming, which will further increase the demand for nylon 12 material.
The advantages of PA12 in long-chain nylon are prominent
Long-chain nylon has excellent performance, and nylon 12 has both performance and cost advantages. Nylon with a methylene length of more than 10 between two amide groups in the main chain of the nylon molecule is called long-chain nylon. The main varieties include nylon 11, nylon 12, nylon 612, nylon 1212, nylon 1012, nylon 1313, etc. Nylon 12 is the most widely used long-chain nylon. Besides having most of the common properties of general nylon, it has a low water absorption rate, as well as high dimensional stability, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, good toughness and easy processing. Compared with another long-chain nylon material PA11, the price of butadiene, the raw material of PA12, is only one-third of that of castor oil, the raw material of PA11. It can be used as a substitute for PA11 in most scenarios and has wide applications in many fields such as automotive fuel pipes, air brake hoses, submarine cables, and 3D printing.
This report aims to provide a comprehensive presentation of the global market for PA11 and PA12, focusing on the total sales volume, sales revenue, price, key companies market share and ranking, together with an analysis of PA11 and PA12 by region & country, by Type, and by Application.
