Synopsis
The global market for Polarizer Film was estimated to be worth US$ 9851 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 12800 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 3.8% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Polarizer Film cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Polarizer Film or Polarizing film is made by dyeing film (mainly polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)) or by iodine being adsorbed onto its surface, then stretching and orientating it. This gives the film polarization characteristics that allow only light with a certain oscillation direction to pass through it. Furthermore, in order to secure mechanical strength of the film, backing materials such as a TAC film or a protective film is laminated to it. Polarizing film is given various kinds of treatment. The film itself is also required to have functions to control reflection, stain and light leakage. Some types of LCDs, touch panels, or organic EL displays also require a product made by laminating a retardation film to the polarizing film.
Polarizers were first invented in the 1930s by American scientist Edwin Land. With the invention of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in the 1970s, their applications expanded significantly. By the late 20th century, as LCD technology matured and fully replaced CRT displays, the polarizer industry entered a period of rapid development.
Currently, polarizers are categorized by panel type into TN/STN, OLED, and TFT types. TN/STN and OLED polarizers for LCD panels have limited applications and smaller market sizes due to inferior display performance. OLED panels, particularly large-sized ones, face challenges such as low production yields and short lifespans, resulting in constrained global demand and production capacity. Presently, TFT-LCD polarizers dominate the global polarizer market.
As a critical raw material for display panels, polarizer supply/demand dynamics and growth prospects remain closely tied to the TFT-LCD panel market. Expanding end markets including smartphones, computers, and LCD TVs, along with emerging applications like wearable devices and smart home products, continue to drive demand for polarizers.
Accounting for approximately 10% of LCD panel costs, polarizers play a vital role in display performance. The growing demand for display panels has fueled rapid growth in polarizer production.
This high-barrier market has long been dominated by manufacturers like LG Chem, Sumitomo Chemical, and Nitto Denko. However, emerging markets' technological advancements have gradually reduced the market concentration of Japanese and Korean.
This report aims to provide a comprehensive presentation of the global market for Polarizer Film, focusing on the total sales volume, sales revenue, price, key companies market share and ranking, together with an analysis of Polarizer Film by region & country, by Type, and by Application.
