Low background liquid scintillator (LBL) is a scintillation detector used in particle physics experiments to detect and measure low-energy neutrino. This is a liquid based detector that uses a mixture of organic solvents and scintillating molecules to detect the interaction between neutrino and atomic nuclei. The LBL detector is designed to have a very low level of background radiation, which may interfere with the measurement of low-energy neutrino. To achieve this, the detector is shielded by layers of lead, copper, and other materials that can absorb or deflect background radiation. LBL detectors are used in various neutrino experiments, including those aimed at studying solar neutrino, atmospheric neutrino and reactor neutrino. They are also used in experiments to study neutrino oscillation, which is a phenomenon that neutrino change from one type to another in space. LBL detector can detect very low energy neutrino, but it is difficult to detect these neutrino with other types of detectors. They are also very sensitive and can detect small changes in neutrino interaction rate, which can provide valuable information about neutrino property and its interaction with matter.
