Müller-matrix spectroscopic ellipsometry is an experimental technique commonly used to measure the optical properties of materials. The technique measures the effect of a material on the rotational and linear polarization states of incident light, as well as its absorption, scattering and transmission of light of different wavelengths." and other properties to determine the optical properties of materials.

Mueller matrix spectroscopic ellipsometer mainly consists of three parts: light source, sample chamber and detector. The light source provides monochromatic or white light and directs the beam into the sample chamber where samples can be placed in the sample holder. In the measurement process, the incident light needs to be divided into horizontal and vertical linearly polarized light by a polarizing beam splitter, and let them shine on the sample at the same time.
